Local ink painter will lead a discussion of the philosophy and history of sumi-e. Demonstrations will include how to use brushes, the values of ink, and the addition of watercolor to sumi-e. Bring a yard of felt material to use under rice paper along with a notebook. Instructor will provide brushes, ink, and rice paper for a supply cost of $15 "Black ink on white paper, simple, elegant and serene. Simplicity is the most outstanding characteristic of Sumi-e.
