The YAM Receives Colossal Cat Sculpture
The Yellowstone Art Museum is delighted with its new loan! Monumental Cat with Whiskers by Fernando Botero went on display on Friday, June 3, 2011. Botero's piece, cast in 2010, is on loan from the collection of William I. Koch.
Botero is a Columbian painter and sculptor who has gained fame for his distinctive, generously proportioned figures of people and animals. His inflated-looking figures are influenced by both South American and European artistic traditions, and often allude to family and spirituality. William I. Koch has been a collector of Botero's work for many years.
